System (Democracy) has failed

In India, we follow a sophisticated system called Democracy which facilitates the luxury and flexibility to the citizens to choose their favourite political leader and organization to rule the county. Rights are completely vested with individuals, precisely each individuals are new generation demigods. Nevertheless democracy has fallacies and caught in the vortex of dangerous threats, no democracy in the world is utopian. Obviously who is responsible for the system to fail? What are the roles of individuals in this system?

How many of us stringently follow the policies, violate the system architecture and ironically blame the government and administration. Here are few examples from my repository which portray why our system has failed.

Once I was travelling in train, besides me sat a family who were consuming coffee. Some threw the paper cups on the floor and some rigidly outside through the window. In another instance, my friend after having a chocolate and dumped the chocolate cover in the road. Whose responsibility is to deposit the consumed paper cups and chocolate covers into the waste disposal unit which is installed in all the bogies of the train and in public places? Do we expect government to do this activity?

How many of us violate the traffic rules and cross the road while the signal is in red, drive rashly, exceed the city speed limit, unnecessarily honk when in a traffic, Overtake, drive without having license, drive without helmets, walk only in pedestrian path, bribe the traffic officials ? These are some of the uninvited loopholes for the system. Why can’t we follow the traffic signals, wait for the vehicles in the front to move, utilize the public transport efficiently, switch off the vehicle when in the traffic? Why cannot we follow and educate the other fellow travellers?

In the midst of 2006 AD, I was hit and ran over by a car. It was a catastrophic accident, escaped death and left me with asymmetric scars all over my body and completely destroying my bike. The gathering went on a rampage and manhandled the drunken driver and his cohort. He was later moved out of the accident site by a bunch of police officials. Ironically, the drunken driver was none other than the most senior official (Deputy Superintendent of police) in Traffic control department. After one year I was charge sheeted with brilliantly doctored case which claimed that I was driving without a license. He who is responsible for controlling and maintaining the road traffic system has completely failed. Shame on him.

Our administrative offices are engulfed with cartels of corrupt government officials and steaming politics. Individuals sow the seeds, because corruption is a solid state. Can the individuals stop giving bribery? Are the individuals real powerful as mentioned in the first paragraph?

Terrorism, the biggest enemy of democracy is pervasive. Recently our country was embroiled with much skilfully executed bloodshed by terrorists. Terrorists are using state of the art technology to infiltrate into public and highest administrative system. These terrorists are the brainchild of many religious fundamentalists. Religion has been proactively misused as the weapon of mass destruction by many faceless bureaucrats and political parties. It is the fundamental right and luxury of an individual to choose his/her faith or creed.

The introduction/influences of many global powerhouses and their interventions into our society and economy have further deceased our democracy. But does it means that we should boycott colas, Xbox, Audi, Forbes magazine? Instead we control them not to interrupt our life and efficient use to attain more mileage.

Ultimately, who is responsible for our system to fail? Why can’t we be a good citizen and educate the new generations who is already under the radar of decepticons. Do we expect the auto bots to save this world same as in the movie “Transformers”. Think about it. High time to act. Be a proud citizen.
